The number of youth in the astronomy program doubled. In hopes of not having to buy more materials, I ended up making 38 solar system kits. Only a few extra balls to spare!

Woke up with the most amazing view. Came home to start prepping some science projects for 40 youth. Ready for some wavelength filtering science labs followed by lanyard or beaded bracelet making.

You’d never guess this but the day was spent at a river in the mountains. It was wonderful.

Finished the front tea garden square today. It looks so much better than before. Plus hopefully with the inlaying cardboard and landscaping fabric there won’t be much chance for weeds, moles or voles. Now the plants just need to grow and fill in.

Hurray!

Recent flowers.

It’s a sketch of a statue I saw recently of pioneers. It had me questioning what came first, the incident the statue was based on or the story of Snow White.

Came upon a fire today. At first we thought it was a planned burn, then realized it definitely wasn’t. Debated on turning around, but our turn was just before the visible flames and heading in the opposite direction so we carried on. Debated on calling in the fire, but surely authorities were aware of a fire of this size right next to a highway that was still open and we had no cell service. By the time we got to the next town about a half hour later, fire crews were mobilizing to head out. They closed the two highways we had just driven all the way to the state line and evacuated the area. Moral of the story… A fire is a fire. Always call it in. Always use caution.

Those are actually some pretty tall flames.

The view once we turned off the “fire” highway and into the “safer” highway.

After not looking at the quilt at all yesterday, I finally sucked it up and sewed it all back together. Looks great. Originally it was going to be a sofa blanket, but seeing it spread out on the bed makes me want to keep going and turn it into a queen sized blanket. We’ll see what happens after the next trip.

A little different type of craft today. I put together an astronomy observing book. There are 240 observing logs, 80 constellation logs and 8 AAS checklists for certificates I’m wanting to obtain in the next year or two. In other news, I mowed the back and front fields today and didn’t die of allergies. Hurray!

You know that old saying about measuring twice and cutting once? Same thing goes for sewing. If I had looked a little more closely at this or measured the final squares, I would have seen my mistake before sewing all the rows together. Instead, I’m spending some quality time with a seem ripped. because I didn’t realize those panels are a quarter inch smaller than the blocks. It happens. No final quilt top pic today.

Meh.
