Progress. Almost all the level 3 evacuations were reduced to level 1 or 2 this afternoon and most people were allowed to return to their properties. I would say return home, but in it at least 80 cases, our friends, neighbors and small community lost their homes to the fire. There still is only 11% containment on the fire and it will continue to smolder for several more weeks, but the worst is past. Also, in this very rural area many people homestead and grow their own food for their families and their livestock. One of the ways we are giving back to them is by donating seeds, fencing and other gardening items for people to be able to rebuild. If you’d like to help, let me know.

Good news! The fire hasn’t grown and some of the evacuation notices were reduced today! Also, for the first time in 6 days, we have beautiful skies again!

It is raining! Hurray! It’s burnt 11,000 acres so far, but we did finally get air support yesterday! I decided since today is  another indoor day, I may as well finish a quilt. This baby blanket is finally quilted and bound. One more thing off of my PHD list, if ya know what I mean.

10,100ish acres burnt. The number didn’t change much from yesterday, technically it went down. I think that’s because of how they calculate or report it. It is hopeful news that the number didn’t drastically go up. By the end of the evening though, the winds had shifted some and new evacuation warnings were going out in both affected counties. Still hoping the fire stays away and we don’t have to evacuate.

Guess who’s air quality rating is now over 500? Mine! The fire is now, 10,100 acres. We haven’t had to evacuate yet, but we did move the motorcycles to a different town to keep them safe. We also have the tractor loaded on the trailer CC and the Rv packed. Hoping the winds keep the fire away from us.

Climbing into the car on the way to get groceries yesterday afternoon, I noticed a large smoke cloud directly overhead. Then from the street, it was a much larger smoke cloud. so instead of getting groceries, I turned around, went home and started packing and preparing for a fire to come through. It was a long night with phones blaring evacuation notices all… night... long. I don’t think anyone slept. By morning over 3,000 acres had burnt and more than 30 structures were lost. By this evening, 8,300 acres have burnt. Luckily, thankfully, amazingly, the wind has been blowing the fire away from us and we haven’t had to evacuate yet.

If spaghetti and an ice cream cone had a baby, this painting would be it. Just saying. Also, check out the yellow tomato’s from the garden. Super sweet and delicious, they may be my new obsession.
