Transplanted the kale starts to some larger pots today. Also finished moving all the plants out of the greenhouse. The flowers are hanging out on deck racks until I get back from upcoming trips.

Kales transplanted.

Petunias, fuchsias, geraniums and orange mint.

Rerouted for “dangerous weather”?
More like beautiful storm clouds.

Made two new raised beds with trellises and mesh wire underlayment. Filled them with straw, steer manure and soil. Dusted them with bone meal. Then planted the 8 tomatoes, 4 peppers, 2 tomatillos, basil and thyme that have been growing in the green house. I’ll probably add sun shades to them tomorrow too. Actually I’m hoping to empty out all the plants from the green house tomorrow due to current heatwave and traveling schedules.

Why yes, that is a scavenger hunt to go with the planet walk. Because learning is fun. The petunias I grew from seeds are doing marvelous by the way!

The first half of the signs for the planet walk. They are two sided with the picture and name on front and tons of facts on the back. Also, I hit 800 miles of walking / hiking / snowshoeing for the year today! Hurray!

Prepped the constellation and star learning lab today. There is everything from trees from our forest, string and to glow paint, to educational worksheets (not shown) and starwheels for the youth to make. It’s probably overkill but I’d hate for them to get bored in the high desert. Thanks to Sky and Telescope Magazine!

Happy 4th of July! Drilled some signs posts for posting our planet walk signs in the dessert. The buckets are filled with on site rocks to support the sign posts.

Made a sign explaining the Star Shade which is the concept behind the main origami project. Also put together the origami bin and printed a bunch of coloring pages.  Many thanks to NASA, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory & California Institute of Technology! In other news, lettuce and peas are now being harvested. Hurray!

Sat on the deck and watched a fire helicopter dropping water for several hours. It was a small fire about a mile from us, but definitely too close for comfort. Super glad they were able to nip it in the bud before it really got going.
